Ventura affordable housing, Ronald McDonald room to be discussed at college area council

The College Area Community Council in Ventura will discuss affordable housing and the newly opened Ronald McDonald Family Room at Ventura County Medical Center on Wednesday.

Both subjects will be explored at the 7 p.m. virtual meeting of the neighborhood group.

People's Self-Help Housing of San Luis Obispo plans to develop affordable housing at 4300 Telegraph Road in Ventura. Veronica Garcia, chief real estate development officer for the nonprofit, will present the plans for the property owned by College United Methodist Church.

Jacquelyn Gargano, a representative of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, will present information on the services offered at the family room.

The room allows families to stay close when their children are hospitalized.

Ventura College officials will present information about student housing. Speaking will be Kim Hoffmans, Ventura College president; Catherine Bojorquez, vice president of business and administrative services; and Vanessa Stotler, communications and marketing manager.

Ventura Police Cmdr. Rick Murray will provide data on crimes in the neighborhoods around Ventura College and City Councilman Mike Johnson will present an update on city business.

The neighborhood council represents residents in District 3, an area bounded by Mills Road to the west, Hill Road to the east, city limits in the hillsides to the north and Highway 126 to the south.
