Ventura mayor to discuss city goals at midtown council meeting

Ventura Mayor Joe Schroeder will discuss the city's goals for the new year at the Midtown Ventura Community Council meeting Thursday.

Schroeder, who was selected by his fellow council members to be mayor in December, represents a large portion of the midtown area. The virtual meeting will start at 7 p.m.

Akbar Alikhan, acting city manager, will discuss recent storm damage around the city, including at the Ventura Pier.

Leslie Velez, outreach manager for the nonprofit Ventura Land Trust, will provide an update on storm damage to Harmon Canyon in the Ventura hillside. Velez also plans to discuss how the organization, formerly the Ventura Hillsides Conservancy, will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Tim Gallagher, a consultant for the city, will discuss the Ventura Active Transportation Plan. The city plan will make improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users. Gallagher will detail the final plan.

A representative from the Ventura Police Department will also provide an update.

The midtown area is generally north of the 101 Freeway from Mills Road on the east to Sanjon Road and Crimea Street on the west, encompassing hillside areas in between.
