Comment: The senior captain who recently committed to play at UC Riverside helped Rio Mesa win five games last week, including the championship of the Michelle Carew Classic. On Monday, she was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs in a 13-0 win over Pacifica in a Channel League game. On Friday, Palazuelos hit a walk-off homer in a 3-1 win over JSerra in the second game of the Carew Classic. On Saturday, she finished 2 for 4 with a two-run home run in a 6-0 win over Chino Hills before the Spartans edged Vista Murrieta 1-0 to win the Silver Division title. Palazuelos, who is hitting .452 with five homers and 19 RBIs for the Spartans (13-1-1), was named the tournament MVP.

Comment: The shortstop/pitcher helped the Cardinals win three games, including two in league, with his bat and arm last week. On Tuesday, Cuevas finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in Santa Paula’s 12-2 victory over Channel Islands in a Citrus Coast League game. On Friday, he allowed just four hits and no earned runs while striking out four in a complete-game performance on the mound and added a hit at the plate in a 5-1 win over Channel Islands. On Saturday, he went 1 for 3 with two RBIs in a 6-2 win over Rio Mesa in a nonleague game. Cuevas is hitting .356 for the Cardinals, who are in first place in league at 9-1 and are 11-5 overall.
