Comment: The senior led another dominant performance by the Newbury Park boys program at the CIF-State cross country championships on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Young won the individual title in Division 2 with a record-breaking time of 14 minutes, 27.9 seconds, and helped the Panthers win their fourth straight state championship. Young broke older brother Nico’s division record by 1.2 seconds, with his twin brother Leo finishing second as the Panthers become the fifth boys cross country team to win four consecutive state titles. Young, who also won the CIF-SS Division 2 individual title, and the Panthers will compete in this week's Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon.

Year: Sophomore

Comment: A week after winning Ventura High's first individual Southern Section championship, the sophomore delivered the school's first girls state cross country champion by winning the Division 2 title on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Engelhardt won with a time of 16:57.9, the fastest of the day and third-fastest in division history, to help the Cougars finish fifth as a team. She plans to run in the Champs Sports regionals this weekend at Mt. San Antonio College.

School: Oaks Christian

Year: Junior

Sport: Cross country

Comment: A week after winning her second straight Southern Section title, the junior became the first Oaks Christian runner to win a state cross country title. Godsey won the Division 4 title in 17:00.1, a margin of 27 seconds over the field and the fourth-fastest Division 4 time in history and seventh best among locals at the state meet. She helped the Lions finish second as a team and will join her team at the Garmin Running Lane nationals in Huntsville, Alabama, instead of running in the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon.
