Comment: The sophomore drove a 30-yard shot into the top corner of the net for a golden goal five minutes into overtime to give the Musketeers a 2-1 win over Huntington Beach-Marina in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 championship match on Saturday at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach. The Musketeers were awarded the top seed in the CIF SoCal Division III Championships and will host Western Christian in a first-round match Tuesday at 5 p.m.
MASON CARRILLO
School: Royal
Year: Junior
Sport: Wrestling
Comment: The junior capped a sensational season on the mat by placing at the CIF-State Wrestling Championships at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield. Carrillo won his first three matches to advance to the quarterfinals in the 113-pound division and won two of three matches in the consolation bracket to secure a seventh-place finish and a spot on the medal podium. Carrillo reached the state meet for the second time after winning Coastal Canyon League and CIF-SS individual titles and placing second at the CIF-SS Masters.
