Veracruz All Natural owners opening restaurant in Mueller next week
What started as a fruit and raspados cart 15 years ago has grown into a small Mexican food empire.
Sisters and Veracruz, Mexico, natives Maritza and Reyna Vazquez started Veracruz All Natural in 2008 in East Austin as a humble cart. They have grown their business to include several wildly popular trucks and a restaurant in Round Rock.
The sisters have now teamed to bring a full-service restaurant and bar to the Mueller development, serving their famous tacos, small plates and entrees from their mother’s family restaurant in Mexico.
Veracruz Fonda & Bar will open April 8 at 1905 Aldrich St., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast will include homemade pastries, tacos like Veracruz’s beloved migas and open-faced tacos known as picadas, a dish popular in Veracruz.

Juan and Sergio Trujillo of Desnudo Coffee helped develop the restaurant’s coffee bar, featuring cafe con leche, a staple in Veracruz. The signature cocktail menu was created with an assist from Osvaldo Vazquez of Bitter & Barrel and Ernest Ramirez of Muertos Clothing Co.
The sisters “want their guests to feel the same excitement they had as children waking up to the smell of mama Reyna cooking mole, or the anticipation of eating picadas with family after a long shift in the kitchen,” according to a news release.

Veracruz All Natural operates four trucks throughout Austin, as well as their Round Rock restaurant and a taco window at the Line hotel in downtown Austin. A Veracruz All Natural restaurant in North Austin closed after a few years to make way for a larger development.
Once open, Veracruz Fonda & Bar will serve daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
