VERKA SERDUCHKA joins jury as 2024 Ukrainian Eurovision hopefuls battle to represent homeland

The organizers of Eurovision 2024’s National Selection revealed the jury members chosen by Ukrainian voters on the Diia app, public broadcaster Suspilne reported on Jan. 21.
The trio includes Andriy Danylko (VERKA SERDUCHKA), Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala, and Bez Obmezhen band frontman Serhiy Tanchynets, with 43.79%, 23.62%, and 12.42% of the vote, respectively.
A total of 720,000 Ukrainians participated.
Tanchynets joins the jury for the first time, while Jamala, the most experienced member, has chosen Ukraine’s representative six times.
The final, featuring 11 candidates, is on Feb. 3, with Dmytro Shurov as the music producer.

Hosts are Timur Miroshnichenko, Yulia Sanina, and Vasyl Baidak. Bookmakers favor Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil’s “Teresa & Maria” at 58%. Mélovin, Anka, Yagody, and Yaktak also compete.
The final, on Feb. 3, will be a TV concert, viewable on the Diia app, UA:Culture, Eurovision Ukraine YouTube channel, and other platforms.

Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil, performing “Teresa & Maria,” have emerged as frontrunners in the bookmakers’ predictions. The song sparked online debates over the alleged ambiguity of the Mother Teresa reference, but the artists clarified that Teresa symbolizes help, goodness, and service. Despite some opposition, the duo’s victory probability stands at 58%.
