Vermont hockey, basketball: How Catamount teams fared Dec. 8-11

Women’s basketball

SF: Filippa Goula 10 points. Sam Miller 10 points.

Note: After a career-high 20 points and six 3-pointers in UVM's last win vs. Marist, Gilwee dropped another six triples in a 19-point outing to guide the Catamounts (7-3) to a sixth straight victory. The Cats used an 18-0 run across the second and third quarters, including a closing 14-0 run to end the first half. ... The six-game roll is the longest streak in coach Alisa Kresge's UVM tenure.

Women’s hockey

Vermont 3, Syracuse 1

S: Tatum White 1G.

Note: McCool broke a 1-all tie with less than 2 minutes to play; Pátková followed with an even-strength insurance tally about a minute later for No. 13 UVM (12-7-1). The visiting Catamounts out-shot Syracuse 49-29.

Note: McCool broke a tie and lifted Vermont (13-7-1) to the win for the second straight game. The victory was UVM's 25th of the calendar, a program record. Syracuse out-shot Vermont 41-32.

Women’s basketball

V: Catherine Gilwee 17 points. Emma Utterback 17 points. Anna Olson 7 points, 8 rebounds. Delaney Richason 7 points, 9 rebounds.

Note: Vermont closed the second quarter on a 12-5 run to the lead 28-23 at the break. The Dukes scored 18 points in the fourth quarter as Tess Myers' trey with 49 seconds left in regulation put them ahead by two. Gilwee's three at the buzzer missed as Vermont's streak ends at six.

Men’s basketball

Vermont 73, Colgate 72

V: Robin Duncan 15 points, 6 rebounds. Matt Veretto 14 points, 9 rebounds. Aaron Deloney 13 points. TJ Hurley 12 points. Finn Sullivan 8 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists.

C: Keegan Records 22 points. Tucker Richardson 17 points.

Note: Vermont (6-7) surrendered 42 second-half points, but held for the win. The Catamounts shot 47.5% from the field (28-59). Veretto was 4-9 from beyond the arc. The rebounding margin was even at 32. UVM, who led for nearly 30 minutes, is on a four-game winning streak with two non-conference tilts left.

Note: A three-goal first period set the tone in the Catamounts' rout of Dartmouth. UVM gained advantages in shots (35-18) and faceoffs (31-23) to improve to 6-11-1 heading into the semester break. The Cats return Dec. 30 when they host Lindenwood for a two-game set.
