Nationally ranked UVM women's hockey sweeps Merrimack

Women's hockey

V: Evelyne Blais-Savoie 1G. Ellice Murphy 1G. Theresa Schafzahl 2G. Corinne McCool 1G. Jessie McPherson 12 saves.

M: Sam Lessick 1G. Emma Gorski 18 saves.

Note: No. 14 UVM charged to a 3-0 lead after the second period on goals by Schafzahl, McCool and Blais-Savoie. The Catamounts had 23 shots on goal and 51 total. The win was the ninth of the season for McPherson who entered fifth in the nation in wins.

Women’s hockey

Vermont 3, Merrimack 0

V: Lara Beecher 1G. Maddy Skelton 1G. Lily Humphrey 1G. Sydney Correa 14 saves.

M: Calli Hogarth 33 saves.

Note: No. 14 Vermont (10-5-1) scored in each period to earn the sweep against Merrimack. Skelton and Humphrey scored on power plays. The Catamounts had a 29-18 advantage in faceoffs and poured in 60 shots.

Men’s hockey

Providence 4, Vermont 0

Note: Providence scored a pair of goals in the second period.

V: Anna Olson 16 points. Catherine Gilwee 11 points. Delaney Richason 10 points, 7 rebounds.

Note: Vermont (1-3) surrendered 19 fourth quarter points to drop a five-point decision at home. Delaware led 16-5 in bench points.
