How Catamount teams fared: UVM men's basketball clinches share of AE crown

How University of Vermont men's and women's hockey, women's basketball and men's and women's lacrosse teams fared from Feb. 17-18.

FRIDAY'S GAMES

Women’s hockey

Vermont 3, New Hampshire 3 (Vermont won shootout 1-0)

V: Natalie Mlynkova 1G. Theresa Schafzahl 1G, 1A. Sini Karjalainen 1G, 2A. Ellice Murphy 1A. Lara Beecher 1A. Lily Humphrey 1A. Jessie McPherson 18 saves.

NH: Shea Verrier 1G. Brianna Brooks 1G. Lauren Martin 1G. Ava Boutilier 25 saves.

Note: Vermont (20-10-3, 15-8-3) secured two points on Mlynkova's shootout goal and with it the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East tournament. The Catamounts trailed 3-1 early in the third period when Karjalainen scored at the 7:52 mark. Schafzahl knotted the match on the power play with less than five minutes left in regulation. And after four consecutive missed shootout attempts, Mlynkova scored for the Catamounts.

Women’s hockey

Vermont 3, New Hampshire 1

UNH: Emily Rickwood 1G. Ava Boutilier 11 saves.

Note: Mlynkova's second goal at 14:31 of the third period gave Vermont a 3-0 lead on its way to a closing out the regular season at 21-10-3 16-8-3 in Hockey East. Second-seeded UVM will host a quarterfinal game next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Men’s hockey

Northeastern 3, Vermont 0

V: Gabe Carriere 22 saves.

Note: Northeastern scored an even-strength goal in each period to blank Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Catamounts fall to 9-16-5 overall and 4-13-3 in Hockey east.

Women’s basketball

Vermont 85, NJIT 73

Men’s basketball

Vermont 82, NJIT 80 (OT)

V: Finn Sullivan 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists. Dylan Penn 19 points, 3 assists. Robin Duncan 13 points, 12 rebounds. Aaron Deloney 9 points, 3 assists. Matt Veretto 9 points.

NJ: Kevin Osawe 29 points, 19 rebounds. Raheim Sullivan 19 points. Adam Hess 15 points.

Note: Vermont (17-10, 11-2) rallied from 11-point deficit to clinch at least a share of the America East regular-season title for the seventh straight season. Sullivan forced the extra period with a long 3-point splash with 3 seconds left in the second half. Then in OT, Deloney completed a three-point play for an 80-78 lead with 58 seconds to go and Duncan had an offensive tip-in between three NJIT defenders to break an 80-all contest with 8.3 seconds on the clock.

Note: After a 4-0 run by Utah in just over two minutes in the fourth quarter, Haley knotted the game at 13 with 27 seconds left in regulation. And 2:14 into the extra frame, Haley struck again to give Vermont (2-1) the road win.
