Vermont man killed in head-on crash in Keene

Jan. 13—One person died in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon along Route 12 in Keene, police said.

Keene police and fire personnel responded to reports of a serious two-car crash at 2:38 p.m. Thursday on Route 12.

According to police, the investigation determined that a 2016 Ford Escape, driven by Marlana Thibault, 27, of Keene, was traveling south on Route 12 in the area of Forge Street.

Thibault's vehicle crossed the center line, colliding with a 2019 Buick Encore that was traveling north, police said in a news release. The vehicles hit head-on.

Thibault, her adult male passenger, and a juvenile passenger were all taken to Cheshire Medical Center for treatment of injuries that are believed to not be life-threatening.

The driver, and only occupant of the vehicle headed north — Richard Bergeron, 85, of Springfield, Vermont — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Route 12 was closed in the area for several hours as investigators worked the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Keene Police Collision Analysis Team. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any additional information regarding the crash is asked to contact Keene Police Detective Andrew Lippincott at 603-357-9813.
