Vernon Kay has revealed he has been trolled ahead of his show’s launch on BBC Radio 2.

The presenter was announced as the replacement for Ken Bruce earlier this year, with the former I’m a Celebrity contestant making his debut on Monday (May 15).

In an interview with the i Weekend, Kay revealed that he was apprehensive about replacing Bruce, who had spent 31 years in the mid-morning slot.

“The longer I wait, the more tricks my mind is starting to play on me. I’ve done nothing but listen to Ken. That vibe, that atmosphere he can create, it is so good,” he said (via The Belfast Telegraph).

“I don’t think there’s anyone in British broadcasting who can put together a funny, entertaining information-packed anecdote in five sentences like him. It takes me five minutes” he continued, before talking about the moment he was offered the role. “I didn’t even think about it.”

The show will run from 9.30am until 12pm every weekday, with Kay saying he received the “best trolling I’ve ever had” from Bruce’s devoted fans, with several joking that he was too young to host the show.

Kay, who has previously hosted Family Fortunes and 1000 Heartbeats, has previously spoken about whether he would participate in Strictly Come Dancing, which is hosted by his wife Tess Daly.

“I get asked this question a lot and the truth is, I’ve never been asked,” he said. “I don’t know what I’d do if they asked me. I think I’d like to do the Christmas special, that’s an easy win – you do one episode and it’s only a day of dancing practice.

“But the series is a huge investment. I guess because I did I’m A Celebrity and The Masked Singer, I’m like: ‘Do I want to do another one of those kinds of shows?’ I’m not too sure,” he added.
