Vernon man arrested on child enticement charges in Wolcott

A Vernon man was arrested on child enticement charges days after meeting up with a non-profit group posing as a 13-year-old girl at a coffee shop in Wolcott, police said.

The Wolcott Police Department executed an arrest warrant on Gregory Yount, 58, at his home in Vernon on Friday on the charge of enticing a minor by computer.

Six days before he was arrested, Wolcott police responded to a Dunkin Donuts on Wolcott Road for a report of a group confronting a “child molester.” According to Wolcott police, Predator Catchers Inc., a non-profit group, was holding Yount at the location until officers arrived.

A member of the organization gave police a binder of text messages and video call interactions between Yount and a fictitious 13-year-old girl, who had been created by the organization. The interactions stretched from the beginning of December through New Year’s Eve, when police responded to the coffee chain.

A meet-up was allegedly set up between Yount and the organization posing as the girl. The meeting was allegedly set up so Yount and the girl could get a hotel room to have sex, police said.

Yount is being held on a $75,000 court-set bond and was scheduled for arraignment at Waterbury Superior Court on Friday.
