Vero Beach man, 24, dies in two-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 at 45th Street, FHP says
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 24-year-old Vero Beach man died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. at the intersection of 45th Street near Gifford and U.S. 1, just north of an area with several medical complexes, according to FHP.
The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was driving a Lexus sedan that was struck by a van driven by a 63-year-old Vero Beach man who was taken HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, according to highway and medical officials.
Investigators said in the report the southbound van failed to yield the right of way and drove into oncoming traffic colliding with the northbound Lexus on U.S. 1 while attempting an eastbound, left turn onto 45th Street.

Indian River County Fire Rescue Bureau Chief Bill Herrington said they were the only people in their vehicles.
Neither driver appeared to be wearing a seat belt, according to highway officials.
The FHP did not release the names of those involved in the crash citing Marsy's Law, passed in 2018.
Introduced in memory of a young woman murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Marsy’s Law was created to offer crime victims a slate of rights, including protecting them and their families from harassment by their attackers.
Some law enforcement officials have interpreted the statute as applying to any victim, as well as to law enforcement officers being entitled to privacy and having their identity protected.
