"Very relevant" Lukashenko instructs scientists to develop drones

The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has instructed scientists to develop drones.

Quote from Lukashenko: "What is very relevant, we will talk about it on Friday, is our drones. How do you compete with applied science and businesses by creating new unmanned aerial vehicles? They are very relevant, based on the lessons of the war in Ukraine."

Details: Lukashenko also ordered that an exhibition of scientific achievements be held in late November and early December.

Background:

  • On the morning of 17 October, the Russian invaders attacked Kyiv using Iranian-made kamikaze drones. In particular, they hit a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi District of the capital.

  • Preliminary information indicates that four people were killed, including a pregnant woman.

  • Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on the morning of 17 October, its air defence destroyed 11 Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. These drones are manufactured by Iran and used by the Russian military under the name Geran-2.

  • The adviser to the Head of the Office of the President, Mykhailo Podoliak, said that Iran bears direct responsibility for the murders of Ukrainians killed in attacks on Ukrainian cities with Iranian-made kamikaze drones.
