It was a Christmas surprise, and a heart-warming collection of gifts, for the family of a St. Joseph County 911 supervisor.

Emily Koszyk and other members of Homes for Heroes surprised Aaron and Claudine Miller on Tuesday afternoon at McKinnies Realty in Mishawaka.

Aaron is a St. Joseph County 911 supervisor and was nominated by co-workers to receive gifts for his family this holiday season as Claudine battles two different rare blood cancers requiring trips to Chicago for treatments.

"It took me back to have the appreciation from work colleagues and local businesses," Aaron said after having the gifts loaded into the family minivan.

"Walking up to the door and seeing everyone right here behind the counter was very warming. Very special," Claudine said.

She is waiting for a stem cell treatment and hopes that more young people consider joining the national registry.

For now, at least she doesn't have to worry about Christmas gifts.
