Vestal-based Matthews Auto Group adds 2 more upstate New York dealerships to its roster
Broome County's largest automotive seller, which expanded into two major upstate markets early last year, is growing again, this time by adding two dealerships in Schenectady.
Matthews Auto Group, based in Vestal, announced the purchase of two Fuccillo auto dealerships in the Capital Region.
The new Matthews Kia and Matthews Hyundai dealerships are both located on State Street in downtown Schenectady.
Matthews Auto has five dealerships in Vestal, offering Nissan, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, GMC, Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Subaru and Kia.
The franchise also has a Ford Dealership in Norwich, plus two Pennsylvania dealerships — Planet Kia in the Scranton area and Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram in Great Bend, north of Scranton.

In February 2021, Matthews acquired the Fuccillo Kia and Nissan dealerships in Clay and Hyundai dealership in Syracuse, along with Fuccillo Hyundai and Kia of Greece, near Rochester.
The sales came just a few months before the death of dealership owner Billy Fuccillo, who led 21 dealerships in New York and Florida.
"All locations were instant contributors to the overall success of Matthews Auto," President Rob Matthews said in a news release. "We have met the teams in Albany, and have every reason to believe that the same extraordinary level of talent that we saw in our previously acquired Fuccillo stores exists here as well."
Roughly 100 Fuccillo employees will join 850 Matthews team members and additional employees may be hired as business needs dictate, Matthews said.
The franchise now has five Kia dealerships, making it one of the largest Kia dealers in New York state, he said.
A family-owned business, Matthews Auto Group was founded in 1973 in Vestal.
