The Diocese of Venice will celebrate Mass on Veterans Day at the the Sarasota National Cemetery with opening ceremonies at 2:45 p.m.

The 14th annual Mass with the Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice, is held in honor of all men and women who have served the country, many of whom are laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery. All military service personnel, active and retired, are encouraged to wear their uniforms to the Mass.

“The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the best way we can honor our veterans, both living and deceased, to whom we owe a great debt,” Dewane said. “This commemorative Mass reminds us not only of veterans’ service and sacrifice, but also of the great luxury of our personal freedoms. We are blessed.”

The Diocese of Venice is assisted each year with the celebration by the Knights of Columbus. Sarasota National Cemetery is located at 9810 State Road 72, four miles east of I-75 (exit 205, Clark Road). Ample parking is provided, and golf cart shuttles will be available for those in need of assistance.

The Diocese of Venice in Florida was established by Pope Saint John Paul in 1984 and includes 61 parishes, 15 schools and serves an estimated 250,000 Catholics in 10 counties. For more information, visit dioceseofvenice.org
