Veterans Day ceremonies throughout Dutchess County

Nov. 11

Poughkeepsie: 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Dutchess County War Memorial and is open to the public. The Dutchess County War Memorial is located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the town of Poughkeepsie.

Town of Poughkeepsie: 11 a.m. Hosted by Dutchess County Veterans’ Services, the ceremony and laying of the wreath will take place at the Dutchess County War Memorial, Raymond Avenue and Main Street.

Amenia/Dover Plains: 11 a.m. Hosted by VFW Post #5444, ceremony is at Fountain Square, intersection of 343, 44 and 22, Amenia.

Beacon: 11 a.m. Hosted by VFW Post #666, ceremony is at the Memorial Building, 413 Main St., Beacon

Town of Fishkill: 11 a.m., held at the town of Fishkill War Memorial, 801 RT 52.

Hyde Park: 11 a.m. Hosted by American Legion Post #1303, ceremony is at Hyde Park Town Hall & Hyde Park War Memorial.

Hopewell Junction: 7 a.m. flag display hosted by American Legion Post 1758 at 799 Route 82, 8 a.m. distribution of poppies at Stewarts, Lake Walton Road, Flory’s, Route 82 Hopewell Junction, and Convenient Mart, Route 52, Fishkill

Millbrook: 11 a.m. Hosted by Millbrook VFW Post #9008, ceremony is at Veterans Green.

Millerton: 11 a.m. Hosted by Millerton American Legion Post #178, ceremony is at Veterans Park, at the intersection of Main Street and Dutchess Ave.

Pine Plains: 11 a.m. Hosted by American Legion Post 426, ceremony is at 9 North Main St.

Red Hook: 7 p.m. Hosted by VFW Post #7765, and American Legion Post 426, ceremony is at Red Hook Veterans Memorial Park, North Broadway, Red Hook.

Rhinebeck: 11 a.m. Hosted by Women’s Auxiliary & Montgomery American Legion Post #429, ceremony is at the Rhinebeck Cemetery, corner of Route 9 South and Mill Road.

Village of Tivoli: 11 a.m. Hosted by: Harris Smith American Legion Post #524, ceremony is at Legion Post #524, 88 Broadway, Tivoli.

Town of Wappinger: 1 p.m. Hosted by town of Wappinger Recreation Department, ceremony is at Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappinger Falls.

Village of Wappingers Falls: 11 a.m. Hosted by: American Legion Post #427 and VFW Post #5913, ceremony is at Major Joseph McDonald MIA/POW Park, East Main St., Wappingers Falls.

New York City: Noon. The largest celebration of service in the nation, the annual New York City Veterans Day Parade, returns in person and steps off at noon from 25th Street and Fifth Avenue. It then proceeds north up Fifth Avenue and ends at 45th Street. This year’s Grand Marshal is Vince M. Patton III, the Eighth Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, and the first African-American to hold that prestigious position. Patton spent over 30 years in uniform. Veterans Day Tribute, Nov. 13

Come hear the story of Muriel Engelman, a World War 2 Army nurse, 1-3 p.m. at Mesier Homestead, 2 Spring St., Wappingers Falls. Engelman was 101 when she passed away this summer, and was one of the last surviving Army nurses to serve near the front lines during World War II. During this event, tour the Mesier Homestead, and learn about this former Wappingers Falls resident's experiences in Europe during the war, as portrayed by a costumed WHS volunteers. The program takes place at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Group size is limited, RSVP at www.wappingershistoricalsociety.org/upcoming-events. There is no charge for admission.
