Veterans Day closures and deals in the Fort Collins area

It's time again to honor those who have served in the U.S. military, with Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11.

And if you're looking to take care of any business on Friday, be aware of closures that day.

Formerly known as Armistice Day, the holiday has been around since the end of World War I.

Armistice Day was recognized as an official holiday by Congress in 1938, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. In 1954, following both World War II and the Korean War, the word "armistice" was changed to "veterans" to honor veterans of all American wars.

Veterans Day honors all veterans, both living and dead, who served in any wars, past or present. (It's different from Memorial Day, which is meant to honor all who served and gave their lives for their country.)

Veterans Day closures

Larimer County area governments will be closed Friday, Nov. 10, including:

  • City of Fort Collins administrative offices. These facilities will remain open: The Gardens on Spring Creek, all recreation facilities and the Museum of Discovery. Transfort buses will operate as usual.

  • City of Loveland administrative offices. The recycling center will remain open, COLT bus service will operate and the following facilities will remain open: Chilson Recreation Center, Golf Loveland, Chilson Senior Center (closed Saturday), Loveland Museum and Gallery (closed Saturday), Loveland Public Library (closed Saturday) and the Rialto Theatre.

  • Larimer County administrative services and the District Attorney's Office will be closed. The Larimer County Landfill will be open.

  • Town of Windsor administrative offices, including the public services campus and police department office. Police officers remain on duty. The recreation center remains open.

The Larimer County board of commissioners proclaimed the week of Nov. 6-12 as Operation Green Light for all Veterans, "who have earned our gratitude and support for their service to our nation."

In honor of them, the Larimer County Administrative Services Building in Fort Collins and Loveland campus will be lit with green energy-saving LED lights.
