Veterans Day: Free meals and deals for active or former military in Greater Akron
There are a fair number of deals to be had for active or former military members in northern Ohio.
Many chains are offering free things like cups of coffee or discounted meals in honor of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11.
Most will ask to see some form of military ID or veteran's card and participation may vary so it is best to call ahead and make sure your local business is offering the deal.

Some of the deals being offered extend beyond food.
The Akron Zoo is offering free admission to all veterans Wednesday through Sunday. The zoo is also offering a 50 percent discount off admission for their families.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton is also offering free admission to any veteran or active service members and one guest on Friday in honor of Veterans Day.
Akron-based Goodyear is also offering a deal at its Goodyear and Just Tires branded service centers for veterans, active military and first responders.
The tire and service centers are offering includes free tire, brake and battery checks and discounts on new tires Thursday through Monday.
Here is a list of just some of the deals available in northern Ohio.
Veterans Day Deals in northern Ohio
7-Eleven and Speedway
Both 7-Eleven and Speedway are offering a free hot dog to veterans. The deal is only available on Nov. 11.
Applebee's
Applebee's is inviting active-duty military, veterans, reserves and National Guard members to enjoy a free meal on Nov. 11. The deal will include entrées from a special menu that offers six dishes. And those guests will receive a $5 Bounce Back Card to redeem for dine-in, To Go or delivery orders within three weeks.
Beef 'O' Brady's
Beef 'O' Brady's is offering a meal deal on Veterans Day. The chain is offering a free meal for vets up to $10 with a purchase of a meal of equal or greater value.
BIBIBOP Asian Grill
BIBIBOP Asian Grill is honoring veterans and active military by offering a free bowl on Veterans Day with proof of service.
BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse
BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse is offering active and former military a free meal on Nov. 11. There will be a select menu to chose from and you must dine in.
Bob Evans
Bob Evans will be offering a free meal to veterans and active-duty military members on Nov. 11. There will be a select menu and you must dine in.
Buffalo Wild Wings
At participating locations, Buffalo Wild Wings is offering veterans and active military free boneless tenders for dine in only on Veterans Day.
Charley's Cheesesteaks
Veterans and active-duty military can get a free order of gourmet fries on Veterans Day at Charley's Cheesesteaks. No purchase necessary.
Chili's
Chili's is offering veterans and active-duty service members a free meal on Veterans Day. You can chose from seven entrees when dining in.
Cracker Barrel
Cracker Barrel is offering veterans a complimentary slice of double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake. The deal is only good when dining in on Nov. 11.
Dunkin' Donuts
Dunkin' Donuts is offering veterans and active military a free donut on Veterans Day.
Einstein Bros. Bagels
Einstein Bros. Bagels is offering all veterans and active-duty military a free hot or iced coffee with a purchase on Nov. 11.
Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers
Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers will be handing out cards for a free meal for veterans and active military on Veterans Day. The coupon will be good for a free Freddy’s Original Double with Cheese combo. The cards may be redeemed by Nov. 30.
Golden Corral
Golden Corral is once again hosting a Military Appreciation Night around Veterans Day. Veterans will be able to eat for free from 5 p.m. to close on Nov. 14.
IHOP
IHOP will serve a free order of Red, White and Blueberry pancakes to veterans and active military from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 11. The offer is only valid for dine in and with proof of service
Insomnia Cookies
Insomnia Cookies is offering veterans and active military a free six pack of cookies with an in-store purchase on Veterans Day.
Krispy Kreme
Krispy Kreme is offering veterans and active military a free donut and a coffee on Veterans Day.
Little Caesars
Some Little Caesars franchises are offering a free Lunch Combo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Veterans Day. Be sure to call ahead to see if your franchise is participating.
McDonald's
Participating McDonald’s restaurants across Ohio will offer free meals on Veteran's Day to all veterans with valid ID. Each meal will feature a choice of sandwiches, drinks, and a side. For breakfast you can chose from Egg McMuffin or a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit along with a choice of any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and a Hash Brown. For lunch and dinner, vets can chose from a Double Cheeseburger, 6-Piece Chicken McNuggets or a Filet-O-Fish along with any size soft drink, tea or hot coffee and small fries.
Menchie's Frozen Yogurt
Menchie's Frozen Yogurt is offering veterans and active-duty military a 6-ounce of froyo on Nov. 11 with proof of service.
Mission BBQ
Mission BBQ is offering a free sandwich to veterans and active military on Veterans Day.
O'Charley's
O'Charley's is marking Veterans Day by offering a free meal − up to $10 − for veterans and active military on Nov. 11 at participating locations.
Olive Garden
Olive Garden is offering a free meal for veterans and active military on Veterans Day. The meals from a limited menu include breadsticks and a salad or soup.
Outback Steakhouse
Outback Steakhouse will serve veterans and active military a free Bloomin' Onion and a Coke on Nov. 11.
Red Lobster
Veterans and active military can visit Red Lobster for a free a Walt's Favorite Shrimp Dinner that includes fries and coleslaw. The free dinners with proof of military service will be served for dine or to go from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 11.
Red Robin
Red Robin is serving veterans and active military a free Red's Tavern Double burger on Nov. 11. The burger comes with free refills of the chain's bottomless steak fries.
Sheetz
Sheetz is honoring veterans and active military a free 6-inch turkey sub and a regular fountain drink along with a free car wash.
Smoothie King
Smoothie King is marking Veterans Day by offering a free 20-ounce drink to veterans and active military on Nov. 11.
Starbucks
Veterans and active military and their spouses can visit Starbucks on Veterans Day for a free tall hot brewed coffee or a free iced coffee.
Texas Roadhouse
Texas Roadhouse is offering veterans and active military a free voucher for a meal from a select menu from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 11 with proper ID. The vouchers that are good for dine in or carry out are good through May 30.
Wendy's
Wendy’s is offering veterans a free small breakfast combo with a valid military ID on Nov. 11.
