SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Military men and women were invited last weekend to the Mission San Juan Capistrano for free admission in thanks for their service, according to the mission's website.

The walls of the mission were draped with a large American flag that hung next to the famed bells that toll in support of the troops.

Though closed on Veterans Day they will be open Thursday through Sunday.

"Thank you to all who have served our country," they said.

The Mission is striving to stay open, and recently began their "Stay Open" campaign.

"The Mission Preservation Foundation and staff are so grateful we will be able to keep our doors open through the holidays and offer the community a safe outdoor environment where the Christmas spirit and tradition can be enjoyed by all," a spokesperson wrote on Facebook. "We are excited to host Capistrano Lights and hope to see you all as we light our beloved Christmas tree on select evenings throughout the season."

The Mission is still sponsoring the "Be Our Guest" voucher program for all who missed out on their field trip to the Mission San Juan Capistrano during the coronavirus shutdown.
