Veterans Day Parade marches in downtown Toms River despite weather concerns
TOMS RIVER -- The rain held off and the Ocean County Veterans Day Parade marched Friday morning through downtown Toms River.
The parade was led by grand marshals Daniel Herr and Siegfried "Sieggy" Jaworski.
Toms River resident Herr served in the U.S. Coast Guard, assigned to Coast Guard Station Atlantic City and Coast Guard Cutter William Tate, in Philadelphia. He later served as a police officer in New York City, Seaside Heights and Toms River, before retiring in June.
Jaworski was born in Hamburg, Germany, and he and his family came to America in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1968, serving four years, and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1971.
Jaworski, who moved to Toms River in 1997, worked for Verizon for 40 years, retiring in 2010. He became a member of the Toms River Elks Lodge No. 1875 in 2006, where he previously served as chaplain and is currently serving as a trustee.
