Veterans Day parades planned in Athens and Priceville

Oct. 11—In honor of Veterans Day, officially recognized on Nov. 11, parades and ceremonies recognizing the nation's former servicemen and women will take place in north Alabama.

The activities will begin Nov. 5 with a parade in Athens. The "Thank You, Veterans" themed parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Athens High School and end at Hometown Grocery. The recognition of veterans will continue with a Veterans Day Program on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Alabama Veterans Museum in Athens, 100 Pryor St. Guest speaker will be Michael Durant, former Black Hawk helicopter pilot and prisoner of war. Admission is free, but guests must have a ticket. Tickets are available through Eventbrite or by calling 256-771-7578.

On Nov. 11, the Morgan County Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will kick off at 10 a.m. at the corner of North Bethel Road and Greenfield Drive in Priceville. The parade will end at the Morgan County Veterans Memorial, on Alabama 67, where a ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
