Veterans Day specials to enjoy in the El Paso area

Several restaurants and organizations will offer specials to thank veterans for their service to our country. Veterans Day is Friday.

La Madeleine restaurant is honoring active-duty service members and military veterans with 30% off any purchase all day on Friday. Military ID required.

Wendy's on Friday will offer a free breakfast combo to anyone who has served or is currently serving in the military with a valid military ID or a Veterans Advantage card. Breakfast hours generally are 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, 1513 N. Zaragoza Road, will offer a free pulled pork sandwich in store or on Dickey's app with a special discount code VETFREE all day Friday. Also, veterans can order craft sausages, premium quality meats and unique rubs to be shipped to their door with a 15% discount. Order at https://barbecueathome.com.

Twin Peaks, 955 Sunland Park Drive, will offer a free lunch to all active and retired military personnel through 3 p.m. Military ID required.

Union Drafthouse, 730 Sunland Park Drive and 12040 Tierra Este Road, get a free appetizer with the purchase of a regular-priced entree. Military ID required.

Applebee's Grill Veterans and active duty military members eat for free. Military ID required.

Red Lobster, all active and retired military personnel will get a free meal featuring Walt's Favorite Shrimp, fries and coleslaw. Military ID required.

Krispy Kreme will be giving those who served in the military a free doughnut and coffee. Military ID required.

Goodyear Auto Service and Just Tires locations are offering free Car Care Check for Vets to active, former and retired veterans as well as first responders in honor of Veteran’s Day.

The nationwide Car Care Checks for Vets promotion runs through Nov. 14 and includes free tire, brake and battery checks, plus, an additional 10% off tires and services. For those unable to get their car in by Nov. 14, qualifying guests can schedule an appointment by Nov. 14 and still take advantage of this deal through Nov. 17.

New Mexico veterans, current military and their dependents can get a free entry to any New Mexico State Park on Friday. The gesture is from the State Parks Division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department.

“We want to encourage our active-duty military personnel and veterans to explore the many recreational opportunities that their New Mexico State Parks offer without worrying about paying any fees,” said Toby Velasquez, state parks director. “They deserve a day to relax, whether it's taking in the fresh air, trying a new outdoor experience, or having fun doing something they love like hiking, fishing, or boating.”

Celebrate at Veterans Day parades, events

The Fabens Veterans Ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Fabens Veterans Park, 602 4th St. NE.

The United American Veterans Organization will have its annual Veterans Day parade at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myrtle Avenue and North Florence Street in Downtown El Paso. The theme is No Veteran Left Behind.

The El Paso Texas Flag Across America Northeast Parade will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stahala Drive and Hondo Pass.

The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso will kick off the holiday shopping season with a tree lighting ceremony and veterans celebration, starting at 6 p.m. today. The tree lighting will be in the center court.

Veterans and current military service members will receive a free treat at Yogo Berry and discounts at several stores, including Grunt Style, where they can save 20% on their purchases. Shoppers who spend $100 or more at Grunt Style will receive a free gift with their purchase.

Families can take pictures with stilt walkers, holiday characters, and Santa while enjoying musical performances by Chapin High School’s orchestra and the Da Vinci School for the Science and Arts choir.

Opportunity Center for the Homeless to build veterans living center

The Opportunity Center for the Homeless will have a groundbreaking at 2 p.m. today for a new Veterans Transitional Living Center at 1217 Magoffin Avenue.

The $2.4 million facility, when completed, will provide a secure, flexible, and easily accessible environment for homeless veterans. Currently, the center has a center for veterans at 818 Myrtle Avenue. However, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs revised and updated its specifications for funded entities.
