Veterans will get discounts at Somerset County golf courses

BRIDGEWATER - Veterans are now eligible for a 20% discount at Somerset County golf courses for weekday play.

The policy went into effect on July 1.

“This is the perfect time to begin offering this discount since we will be celebrating the anniversary of national freedom," said Somerset County Park Commission President D.J. Hunsinger

To receive a discount, a veteran must be a resident of Somerset County and have a Somerset County Veterans Identification Card. To receive the free photo identification card that lists the branch of service where the individual received a discharge, veterans must file a DD-214 discharge form with the Somerset County Clerk’s Office. For more information and to make an appointment with the clerk's office, call 908-231-7013.

The golfing veterans must also register with the Somerset County Park Commission. To register, call 908-722-1200. The registration fees are $70 per year and $55 per year for seniors ages 62 years and older.

“I am pleased that the park commission can offer this discount to veterans,” said Somerset County Commissioner Directory Shanel Y. Robinson, a veteran of the Air Force Reserves. “For many veterans, affordability is an obstacle to enjoying our golf courses. This is one way to thank the vets for serving our country.”

The veteran’s discount cannot be used at the nine-hole Academy Course at Neshanic Valley or in combination with other discounts, such as for seniors 62 and older. Discounts are available from Monday to Friday, except for holidays.

The base weekday green fees for 18 holes at Green Knoll, Spooky Brook, Warrenbrook and Quail Brook is $30 while the green fee at Neshanic Valley is $60 with cart included.
