Marvin Vettori and Kevin Holland go head-to-head this evening in a middleweight UFC main event in Las Vegas.

Italy’s Vettori (16-4-1), ranked No 6 in the division, was due to face Liverpudlian Darren Till tonight in a bout to determine Europe’s best mixed martial artist at 185lbs, but Till broke his collarbone last week, ruling him out of the contest. Tenth-ranked Texan Holland (21-6), who is no stranger to fighting on short notice, steps up to fill in – three weeks after his last outing, a comprehensive points defeat by fellow American Derek Brunson. That result ended a run of five straight wins for ‘Big Mouth’ – who is famed for incessantly talking to his opponents – with all of those victories coming in what was a remarkable 2020 for the 28-year-old.

Vettori, meanwhile, has become somewhat accustomed to his opponents withdrawing from scheduled meetings, but the 27-year-old has been able to put together a four-fight win streak over the last two years, with his last defeat coming in 2018 – a split-decision loss to current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. ‘The Italian Dream’ is pursuing a rematch with Adesanya, intent on proving he can beat ‘The Last Stylebender’. A victory at the UFC Apex facility this evening would certainly move Vettori a step closer to the champion.
