Friday's weather is looking pleasant, topping out at 82 degrees and partly cloudy. Outside of some scattered showers Sunday, it should be about the same all weekend.
Is this the best place in the Midwest to see fall colors?
Begrudgingly, as someone who loves the climate-controlled universe of "indoors," I have to admit that this is by far the best time of year to get outside.
You should definitely be following Journal Sentinel reporter Chelsey Lewis, who frequently travels to the coolest parts of Wisconsin (and beyond) and lets us know what we're missing. She checks out one of the best spots to catch fall colors in the Midwest — the Copper Peak ski jump in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
You are going to love this drone video. You can see Canada from up there!
Word on the street (or, more appropriately, the trail) is that fall colors will peak about a month from now, so there's still time to plot some brief outdoor getaways.
VHS tapes are back! LOL, just kidding. Or am I?
Somewhere in the deep recesses of my ... I dunno, basement or bedroom or closet or something ... there is a VHS tape of a young JR Radcliffe performing "Grease" as a senior in high school. I had a leather jacket! I had a full head of hair (slicked back, of course)! I even had a solo!
No, I won't sing it for you. OK, I will, but it's bad.
Anyway, I have no way of watching it if I ever find it, because ... I mean, who has a VHS player anymore? And it's probably ruined. But what if it could be fixed?
The UWM Archives and Film Studies program is hosting "Home Movie Day" on Oct. 15, with free admission. People can bring in all their old video formats (yes, even Super 8 or Betamax), and the UWM volunteers will inspect and repair them. Some selections will even be screened for audiences. A perfect opportunity to showcase the pipes of young JR Radcliffe, and possibly some ill-begotten dance moves.
For those interested, that's in Room B91 at Mitchell Hall, 3203 N. Downer Ave.

It's a big sports weekend with the Bears and Yankees coming to Wisconsin
The Brewers are welcoming in the storied New York Yankees to American Family Field this weekend, which is cool if you're a fan of pinstripes, home runs (Aaron Judge has a record-threatening 57 of them) or the stress of September pennant races. It's do or die time for the Brewers.
Meanwhile, the Badgers play against New Mexico State on Saturday and the Packers are hosting the Bears on Sunday. Chicago franchise owner Aaron Rodgers will be there.
Here's a bunch of other times he crushed the Bears, and here's what Hall of Famer LeRoy Butler thinks about the matchup.
Hopefully it goes better than last sports weekend. Over the past three seasons, the Badgers and Packers have lost in the same weekend just one other time (and didn't lose together once, for that matter, in 2014, 2015 or 2017).
