Viaduct murals ready to see under Hawthorne Bridge

PORTLAND, Ore. (PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — It’s meant to beautify parts of Portland with professionally painted murals, and honor elements and people of the city.

Now we can see what it’s all about: There are four bridge column mural projects done through the Viaduct Arts Column Mural Initiative in Central Eastside. It’s a project by Portland Street Art Alliance, muralist Hayden Senter and Travel Portland. They are bridge columns wrapped in vibrant new murals at Southeast Madison and Water Avenue, under the Hawthorne Bridge.

The first two columns pay homage to Portland’s original art columns, the 1940s-era Lovejoy Columns by Tom Stefopoulos.

The third column celebrates Portland Rose Festival Foundation’s renowned dragon boat races. The fourth shares the story of Ground Score Association, Portland’s democratic worker association of dumpster divers, canners and waste pickers.
