Vice President Kamala Harris and Demonstrators Protest as Indiana Lawmakers Debate Abortion Ban

Pro-abortion-rights protesters demonstrated inside the Indiana Statehouse on July 25, as the state senate assembled for a special session to discuss Republicans’ proposed ban on the procedure.

Video posted to Twitter by Nick Roberts shows some of the protesters. “It was inspiring to see so many young people here,” Roberts said in his tweet.

The IndyStar reported that more than 1,000 protesters were present at the peak of the protest.

Vice President Kamala Harris also traveled to Indianapolis on July 25 to meet with lawmakers to discuss abortion rights.

In a tweet, Harris said, “Women should have the ability to make decisions about their own bodies without government interference.”

According to the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation, Indiana is the first state to hold a special session on abortion. About a dozen other states have banned abortion since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade last month.
