Vicky McClure will lead the cast for the brand new psychological-thriller series, Insomnia.

The Line of Duty and Broadchurch star has joined the cast of the six-part Paramount+ series, which follows Emma (McClure) as she fears she might be losing her mind when her "hard-won dream life starts to turn into a nightmare."

The synopsis reads: "A couple of weeks before her 40th birthday Emma stops sleeping - just as her mother had done right before she suffered a violent psychotic breakdown on the night of her own 40th birthday."

"As events worsen, Emma’s world starts to unravel and she realises she will need to investigate her painful past to prevent tragedy from striking a second time."

The supporting cast for Insomnia includes Tom Cullen, Smylie Bradwell, India Fowler, Leanne Best, Corinna Marlowe, Dominic Tighe, Lyndsey Marshal, and Robert Gilbert. Alongside this, Sarah Pinborough penned the script, and Börkur Sigthorsson is on board as the director.

"Myself and BYO Films are really excited to be working alongside Left Bank on Insomnia," said McClure of the series, which she is also producing.

"It’s a very different role for me - Sarah Pinborough has written such an exciting script. We have a fantastic cast, crew and production team all set for a very fulfilling few months ahead."

McClure appeared as Kate Fleming in all six series of Line of Duty, and co-star Martin Compston recently spoke about the show’s future, which has been unclear since the final instalment aired back in 2021.

"We have got a WhatsApp group that was 'Line of Duty 6' and a while ago [creator] Jed [Mercurio] changed the name of it to 'Line of Duty 7'" he revealed. "We wouldn't do it just for the sake of it. It would have to add to the series, it would have to make the series better."

Insomnia will stream on Paramount+ in 2024.
