Suspect killed in Ozark standoff identified

OZARK, Ala (WDHN) — A man shot by law enforcement during an Ozark standoff has been identified.

Dale County Coroner John Cawley identified the victim as 47-year-old Boyd Phillips of Ozark.

Cawley told WDHN that Phillips was fatally injured during a standoff with authorities in Ozark Monday afternoon.

According to Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, at around 10:40 a.m., Boyd threatened several people at an Ozark bank with a knife before running out and getting in a car, a prompting highway patrol trooper to give chase.

Trooper Kendra McKinney says the chase ended in the 100 block of Hub Street in Ozark and Boyd barricaded himself inside a home.

McKinney tells WDHN that Boyd was shot by Alabama Law Enforcement Agency SWAT members during the standoff.

Investigators have not said why they opened fire on Boyd.
