Victim fatally struck by NJ Transit train identified as 73-year-old Belmar woman

SPRING LAKE – The victim fatally struck by an NJ Transit train Sunday morning has been identified as a 73-year-old Belmar woman, officials said.

Cynthia Sussman was hit by the train at 9:19 a.m. at the Church Street crossing, a railway spokesperson said.

The North Jersey Coast Line train departed Long Branch at 8:46 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Bay Head station at 9:31 a.m. The 25 passengers on board were transferred to another train to complete the trip, according to NJ Transit.

Two additional trains on the North Jersey Coast Line were delayed following the incident, officials said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the NJ Transit Police.
