Victim identified in fatal hit-and-run, Sioux Falls police still searching for suspect

Police are still searching for the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a man before it left the scene of a hit-and-run last week.

At about 10:20 p.m. Friday, Sioux Falls police were dispatched to the area of North Marion Road and West Bentgrass Street for a car/pedestrian crash.

When arriving on scene, emergency crews discovered an adult male with life threatening injuries. The man, identified by police as Skyler Yellow Eagle, 24, from Mission, was taken to an area hospital and later died from his injuries.

At a police briefing on Monday, Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens said the investigation revealed Yellow Eagle's car slid into a ditch. Yellow Eagle was reportedly out of his car and in the process of attempting to get his vehicle out of the ditch when the truck drove by and struck him.

Police later located that truck, Clemens said on Monday. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident as investigators are still working to identify the driver of the truck.
