Victim killed in Saturday morning house fire in Silver Springs Shores has been identified

SILVER SPRINGS SHORES — A county official has identified the victim of Saturday morning's fatal house fire.

Jean Cecy Cortes, 45, died in the fire at 1 Cedar Trace Lane, according to a public information officer with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The officer stated “(t)here is no foul play suspected” in the fire.

Cortes is listed as the owner of the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house, which was built in 1991, according to the Marion County Property Appraiser's Office website.

A post on the Marion County Fire Rescue Facebook page states firefighters from two stations in Rolling Greens and stations in Silver Springs Shores and Belleview were dispatched to the house fire at 7:49 a.m. Saturday in response to 911 callers.

“One neighbor tried to force entry into the single-family residence but was unable to,” the post states.

One crew immediately went into “rescue mode” and another crew placed hose lines to fight the interior fire as other crews assisted, according to the post.

The victim was found on the first search and pronounced deceased by MCFR responders, according to the post. The fire was under control at 8:09 a.m.

The cause and origin of the fire was under investigation by MCFR and the State Fire Marshall’s Office. The MCSO also was on scene to investigate, the post indicated.
