Two people were killed Friday evening and a third person was transported via helicopter to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash north of Davenport.

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched at about 9:03 p.m. to the crash on US 17/92 at Ernie Caldwell Boulevard.

When first responders arrived, both drivers were found to be deceased, the PCSO said. They were identified as Jennifer Wray, 64, of Davenport, and Tyrone Jones, 38, of Haines City.

Tavarous Stokes, 38, of Lakeland was a passenger in Jones’ vehicle. He was airlifted to the hospital with possible injuries to his neck and leg.

In a preliminary investigation, deputies said, Wray was the driver of a blue 1997 BMW 328i that was traveling north on US 17/92. Jones and Stokes were in a silver 2003 Infiniti FX45 that was traveling south on the same road.

Wray made a left turn at the intersection of Ernie Caldwell Boulevard, and struck Jones’ Infiniti, PCSO said.

After the impact, the Infiniti flipped onto its roof and there was a brief fire, they said. Wray was wearing her seat belt, but Jones and Stokes were not.

Polk County Fire Rescue also responded and officers from Davenport Police Department assisted deputies with traffic control while a portion of US 17/92 was closed for about four hours.

The crash is being investigated by the PCSO Traffic Homicide Unit and the investigation remains ongoing.
