Victoria Beckham’s Latest Cover Shoot Sparks Re-Touching Row

Victoria’s Beckham’s latest photo shoot is causing quite the buzz and not because of the styling, the make-up or the fact that she cracked a smile (FYI she didn’t). Taking to Instagram to share a sneaky peak of some of the images for her upcoming cover shoot for Vogue China, fans were quick to spot what many believe to be a photoshop error.

On first glance the black and white image shows the fashion designer showing off her flexibility and pulling off one of the ballet inspired poses we reported on last week, but on closer inspection it appears that she’s missing part of her upper right leg.

“OMG she’s missing a huge chunk out of her thigh in the first pic,” wrote one fan.

“The pic when she is holding her leg the thigh of her back leg is missing,” agreed another

“Photoshop fail,” one simply wrote.

“Okay, it’s clearly an error. Every celeb gets Photoshopped no matter who they are or how “perfect” anyone thinks they are. It’s normal in the world of celebrity. It’s not her that’s made a body part disappear, it’s the magazines editors.”

But, others rebuffed that suggestion and pointed out the apparent detachment of her leg is an optical illusion due to the white material from her shirt or the wearing of white underwear.

“It’s her white pants you morons, no gap just pants #lookcloser,” wrote one supporter.

“Stunning!! Someone said the thigh of her back leg is missing but it’s just her shirt,” added another.

Whether you think it’s material from her shirt covering part of her thigh, or the grey background makes it tricky to distinguish material from everything else, the image has brought the topic of photoshopping celebrity women to the forefront once again.

Just last week, Kerry Washington called out Adweek for photoshopping her face beyond recognition, while magazine staff insist it was just “minimal adjustments” for the magazine’s “design needs.”

The good news is that a short Insta-video of some other shots from the shoot reveal that Victoria hasn’t taken the thigh-gap to a scary new extreme, as her right leg is firmly in tact. Phew! The not so good news is that it has re-ignited the debate about photoshopping and whether or not the practice piles more pressure on women to keep up with increasingly unrealistic beauty standards.
