CEMEX USA announced that it recently received two awards from the Portland Cement Association, recognizing a pair of the company’s cement plants for their outstanding safety and community relations efforts.

The PCA honored the CEMEX cement plant in Victorville with the 2021 PCA Energy & Environment Award for Outreach.

Each year, the High Desert-based operation positively impacts more than 1,000 students and educators through hands-on activities and educational programs, the company said.

During the pandemic, the Victorville team continued its community efforts by holding virtual events. Hundreds of students and educators benefited by learning about the manufacturing of cement, aggregates and ready-mix concrete as well as CEMEX’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Also, the CEMEX Miami, Florida cement plant earned the 2021 PCA Safety Innovation Award for COVID-19 Management for its quick and ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic.

As the virus began to spread globally, employees at the Florida plant swiftly implemented protocols aimed at safeguarding health and safety while maintaining business continuity.

CEMEX Miami also adopted Behaviors that Save Lives, its extensive company-wide COVID-19 protocols aimed at stopping the spread of the virus by focusing on identifying symptoms, physical distancing, and protecting health and personal hygiene.

“Our cement plants and employees are part of the fabric of our communities, and these teams have done an exceptional job of responding quickly and innovating during this unprecedented time,” said CEMEX USA Executive Vice President—Cement Operations and Technical Edgar Angeles. “We are proud of their performance and applaud their strong commitment to our company, our communities and each other.”

PCA officially recognized CEMEX USA and its operations with a ceremony during its annual spring board and committee meetings earlier this year in San Antonio, Texas.

CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides products and services with a history of improving the well-being of those it serves through innovative building solutions, efficiency advancements and sustainability efforts.

Its U.S. network includes 10 cement plants, close to 50 strategically located cement terminals, nearly 50 aggregate quarries and more than 280 ready-mix concrete plants.

CEMEX USA has been repeatedly recognized for its efforts in sustainability and energy management, including earning U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
