Smoke billows from a building at the north end of Fort Myers Beach

A building caught on fire Saturday on the north end of Fort Myers Beach. There were intense flames and a plume of thick, black smoke rose to the blue sky above and could be seen from nearby communities.

Developing story: Fire raging at building on the north end of Fort Myers Beach

The fire also caused a stir on social media with photos and videos being posted of the blaze.

One of the people posting content, Christina Carras, a Fort Myers resident, shared two videos she took of the burning building with The News-Press. This is one of the two videos and it was taken from the vehicle Carras was in while crossing the Mantanzas Bridge that connects Fort Myers Beach to Fort Myers.
