Police on Saturday released surveillance footage of the man who chucked a wrench at a door to Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s residence behind St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

The vandal, wearing a blue vest and a baseball cap, approached the front of the Cardinal’s home on E. 50th St. near Fifth Ave. about 12:30 p.m. Friday.

After looking around for witnesses, he reached into his pocket and lobbed the wrench at the front door before casually walking off, surveillance video acquired by police shows.

The wrench crashed through the glass outer door and hit the inner door, but didn’t damage it, cops said.

Cardinal Dolan is traveling and was not home when the vandalism occurred, diocese officials told the NYPD.

“We were on our way down to do a routine inspection when we found it,” a cathedral maintenance worker who discovered the wrench with his coworker told the Daily News Friday. “We have cameras everywhere. It was caught on video.”

There was no indication that the vandalism was some kind of anti-Catholic attack, although the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating, an NYPD spokesman said.

The maintenance worker said the homeless sleep on the stairs of St. Patrick’s and Cardinal Dolan’s residence but staffers always try to move them away.

“We have a lot of trouble with the homeless,” the worker said. “We tell them (this spot is) residential but we don’t say who lives here.”

The vandal walked down E. 50th St. toward Madison Ave. after the crime, cops said. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
