Video: Driver goes through tidal flooding in Norfolk
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – As expected, parts of the WAVY viewing area experienced some tidal flooding this week, in the typical spots.
Video captured in the Colonial Place neighborhood of Norfolk Wednesday morning shows a driver slowly going through very high water. WAVY confirmed the driver made it past the flooding, but the Virginia Department of Emergency Management advises drivers not to go through flood waters. You’ve heard the saying, “Turn Around. Don’t Drown!”
The National Weather Service warns you should never drive through flooded roads for a couple reasons. You don’t know the condition of the road under the water, and six inches or more of water can cause loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water can float many vehicles.

According to Super Doppler 10 Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler, minor tidal flooding over the Chesapeake Bay was lower than forecast, by a few inches. He said the next few high tides shouldn’t present any major issues.
The Outer Banks of North Carolina experienced some ocean over Wednesday morning, but vehicles were still able to get through it.
According to the N.C. Department of Transportation, NC12 remained open, but the high tide did impact the protective dunes. Crews were out working to rebuild what was damaged.
