New video released of patient after leaving hospital, stealing ambulance in Fairfax County

ANNANDALE, Va. (DC News Now) — Police in Northern Virginia are still searching for a hospital patient who Fairfax County police said stole an ambulance Monday night from Inova Fairfax Hospital.

New video shows a man believed to be 32-year-old Rickey Lowe in a hospital gown walking just feet away from where the ambulance was ditched in the parking lot of Burke and Herbert Bank off Annandale Road.

Police said Lowe walked out of the emergency room and stole an MMT medical transport ambulance.

He is believed to have been last spotted in Prince William County Monday night but he is still on the run.

Lowe was seen in security footage walking west on Maple Drive toward Annandale Road at 8:54 p.m. on Monday night.

“You see a lot of people passing him by and I’m surprised nobody wonders — he’s not in clothing,” said Paula Luabun.

Luabun and her husband only realized Tuesday morning it happened right by their business, Annandale Watch & Jewelry.

“I hope they can find him because it’s cold last night and you see what he’s on,” Luabun said.

Police said this all started at about 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon near the Fair Oaks Mall where a license plate reader got a hit for a stolen car.

The driver at one point saw officers following.

“Looks like he tried to make it over to 66 westbound. That’s when he missed. He went right in between the two roadways into the embankment, hit a hill and quite literally took flight,” said Fairfax County Police Department Lt. James Curry

All five people inside the car were taken to the hospital, including Lowe.

Only the driver was charged with grand larceny though police also found drugs and guns in the car.

Lowe left the hospital with an IV still in his arm and stole an ambulance.

Prince William County Police Department officers headed to his Manassas home to search for him but were without luck.

“The subject was involved in a pursuit earlier today with Fairfax County that involved guns and drugs. He was extremely violent,” a police dispatcher said over the radio.

Lowe has an extensive criminal history including gun charges.

“Whatever crime he’s committed in the past, that’s certainly probably relevant in terms of court and how that plays out. But our focus right now is to find him for the crime that he committed yesterday,” Curry said.

The driver is still receiving treatment and once discharged, they will be transferred to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Lowe is facing grand larceny charges as police continue to search for him.

Curry said over the course of the investigation into the stolen car, drugs and guns, the driver and passengers in that car could face more charges in the future.
