Video shows bull jumping into crowded stands at Idaho rodeo

A widely circulated video showed a bull jumping into stands filled with spectators during a rodeo in Idaho on Thursday.

Kris Beckstead, chairman of That Famous Preston Night Rodeo, told NBC News on Monday that the incident occurred on Thursday evening during a bull-riding competition at the rodeo in Preston, about 30 miles north of the Idaho-Utah state border.

The bull and the spectators were not injured during the incident, she said.

"After throwing off his rider, the bull continued to circle the arena," Beckstead said. "It appeared that he thought he could jump the barrier, so he aimed towards the cable fence."

According to Beckstead, who was at Thursday's competition, the bull attempted to jump over the cable, but was thrown off his balance after the cable broke and fell back into the arena.

Video showed audience members screaming as the bull charged towards the crowd and getting pulled back into the arena by the cable fence.

"We’re glad last night didn’t end up as bad as it could have!" the rodeo said in a Facebook statement.

The bull was brought under control by other cattle handlers shortly after the incident, according to Beckstead, but it was unclear if the bull would be put down.

She added that the bull did not have a history of jumping into crowds and that she has only ever seen a similar incident happen once before while working at the rodeo.

"It could have been worse, but nobody was hurt, and everybody was shaken up a bit," she said. "It was just a thrill for everybody — some girls were crying, so they probably won't go to a rodeo again."
