A rented 2021 Lamborghini Urus reportedly caused serious damage to a duplex in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in late July after it blew through a stop sign, struck another SUV in an intersection, launched some 20 feet into the air and then burst into a large fireball.

The incident took place just after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24 at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 11th Street, WSVN reports. Surveillance video captured the moment that the white Lamborghini truck, which was reportedly rented from a company in Miami, blew through a stop sign at a high rate of speed. The footage itself isn’t perfect, but the force of the impact is on full display. The Lamborghini spun away from the Nissan SUV that struck it before getting airborne, smashing into the roof of the duplex in the process. The high-dollar SUV then made its final landing on the opposite side of the duplex, which was unoccupied at the time.

“It appears the car flew through the air about maybe 20 or 30 feet, landed on the roof of the house here, hit the tree, and fell to the ground and burst into flames,” Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Timothy Heiser told WSVN.

Witness Clarence Middleton was not far from the scene of the crash, and immediately sprung into action when he noticed the driver trapped inside the burning Urus. Middleton reportedly managed to pull the man from the wreckage before dragging him to safety.

The driver was quick to regain his wit after Middleton’s rescue, and then he apparently decided he didn’t want to be around when the police arrived on scene. Middleton recalled watching the man sprint away from the scene with just his socks on his feet. Police reportedly said the man was dazed from the crash, and ultimately found his way to a local hospital for treatment. WSVN reports that the Urus driver is now fully cooperating with the local authorities and their investigation. R&T has reached out to FLPD for clarification on any pending criminal charges related to the accident.

Local10 reports that the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, Mohammad Iqbal, was transferred to Broward Health Medical Center after reporting pain in his chest and left hip at the scene. Iqbal later told the publication that his injuries were minor.

This is reportedly just one of several nasty accidents that have taken place at this intersection. WSVN said residents have repeatedly urged local officials for a change in the intersection's design.

Let this incident serve as another example of why it is always important to keep your eyes moving when approaching an intersection. While the driver of the Nissan SUV seemingly did nothing wrong here, someone else’s mistake could have cost them their lives.
