Video shows moment gunshots are heard during little league baseball game in California
California authorities are searching for a shooter after video captured gunfire and a “projectile” hitting a baseball field in the middle of a little league game, authorities said.
Surveillance video from behind home plate captured the moment players, coaches, parents and officials heard the gunshots at a San Marcos park on Monday as everyone quickly ran off the field.
About seven gunshots can be heard in the video as a projectile hits the infield dirt. Four players and a coach simultaneously drop down onto the field as the rest of the players and coaches run towards the dugout.
San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies arrived at the park after reports of gunfire in the area, the sheriff's department said in a news release.
“Deputies searched the area, but didn't find anyone who had been shot or was hurt,” the sheriff's department said.
Nearby college goes on lockdown
Palomar College in San Marcos was placed on lockdown at 8:11 p.m. after receiving information from the sheriff’s department that shots were fired at Mission Sports Park. The lockdown was lifted at 9:28 p.m.
“Campus police remained in close communication throughout the lockdown with the sheriff’s department to protect the campus from an emerging threat,” the school said in a Facebook post.
San Marcos Sheriff's Station detectives and San Diego County Crime Stoppers are asking the public for any leads on the shooting.
