Video shows ‘not-so-graceful burglar’ fall through ceiling at liquor store, CA cops say

Police said a burglar chose an unconventional method to break into a liquor store in Rancho Cucamonga: the ceiling.

Deputies responded on Jan. 27 after a burglary alarm went off at A1 Auto Care, according to a news release. The windows were smashed and the store had been robbed. The lottery ticket display was damaged, but no tickets were stolen.

“Video surveillance showed a light-skinned male who wore a dark hooded sweatshirt, black ball cap, red and black gloves, black pants, and black shoes, break the glass front door with a crowbar and clear trash bag,” the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department said in the release.

About 30 minutes later that morning, deputies responded to another alarm at Prestige Liquor, about 2 miles away from the auto shop. Police said video footage showed the same man break into the store through the roof before stealing “a large amount of” lottery tickets. There was a Ford F-150 pickup seen near the store that’s believed to be involved in the crime.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Lt. Casey Jiles posted the video on Twitter along with the hashtag #FallingBurglar.

“We are seeking info on this not so graceful burglar,” Jiles wrote. “Burglary is a crime and gravity always wins. Help us catch this guy. #FallingBurglar

Police have urged anyone with information about the burglaries to contact Rancho Cucamonga Police Department at 909-477-2800.
