Video shows shooting that critically injured couple; LCSO, Crime Stoppers seek tips

Authorities are searching for clues, hoping to identify the individuals involved, after a Lehigh Acres couple was shot and critically injured over the weekend.

The shooting happened about 4 a.m. Sunday when the couple was caught in the middle of a large gathering, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said.

Both the Sheriff's Office and Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers hope to identify the individuals or cars in hopes of cracking the case.

According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, two people at the intersection of Milwaukee Boulevard and Homestead Road encountered a large group of people. The group surrounded their truck and boat, not allowing them to cross the intersection.

A video shared by the Sheriff's Office shows a group of about 10 individuals surrounding the pickup. One of the group members fired a shot through the driver's side window, striking both.

The couple then drove away.

Rescue workers took the pair to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, where they were treated for critical injuries. The victims' ages remain unknown.
