Video shows tanker carrying fuel catch fire on Florida Turnpike

A tanker fire was affecting traffic on the Florida Turnpike in Palm Beach County on Friday morning, according to Florida511 and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

WPTV First Alert Traffic captured video of the fire earlier this morning.

The tanker was carrying fuel.

The fire is at mile marker 89, near the Hypoluxo Road overpass and north of Boynton Beach Boulevard.

The fire spread to both sides of the Turnpike, prompting officials to close both north and southbound lanes. By 7:30 a.m., traffic was backed up for about six miles, to mile marker 95.

Shortly before 8 a.m., one southbound lane has been opened, according to Fire Rescue.

Northbound lanes opened shortly after 8:30 a.m. Palm Beach Fire Rescue warned motorists to expect heavy delays.

The crash was first reported shortly before 6 a.m.
