Video shows victim’s last moments in Las Vegas before former pro-basketball player allegedly kidnapped, killed her

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Never before seen video shows the final moments of a 23-year-old woman’s life before she was allegedly kidnapped and killed by a former pro basketball player and his girlfriend last December.

Chance Comanche, 27, a former NBA G-League player who played for the Stockton Kings, faces murder and kidnapping charges in the Dec. 6 death of 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers. He and his co-defendent Sakari Harnden, 19, were indicted by a grand jury on March 11.  Prosecutors say they are also taking the case to their Death Penalty Review Committee.

Comanche and Harnden are accused of killing Rodgers by strangling her and then burying her body in a Henderson neighborhood.

Photos from the grand jury show a rocky, undeveloped lot near a suburban community, close to Gibson Road and Horizon Ridge Parkway. That is where Rodgers’ body was found, covered in large rocks, where she was eventually found, bloodied and stripped.

Surveillance video shows Rodgers with Harnden, both walking in and out of a Las Vegas liquor store.

Rodgers was a medical assistant in Washington state, according to loved ones. Her boyfriend told police they had traveled to Las Vegas on Dec. 1 with the intent of engaging in prostitution, an arrest report stated.

A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police report stated that Harnden and Rodgers were both sex workers. On Dec. 6, Rodgers thought she and Harden were going on a double date to sell sex, but instead Comanche pretended to be the client.

Hours after the Rodgers’ death, a security camera at a local grocery store showed Comanche and Harnden together.

The arrest report also claimed that Harnden implicated a man identified as her boyfriend in a double murder in California, according to the report.

“Sakari was upset at Marayna for telling other people that Sakari had implicated her boyfriend in the murder,” the arrest report stated.

Las Vegas detectives said Comanche later confessed to the murder and told police where to find Rodgers’ remains.

He told police that Harnden told him about having issues with Rodgers, prompting the pair to put together a plan to lure her away from her friends to kill her, the report said.

Texts between Comanche and Harnden show a conversation before Rodgers’ death, discussing how they should kill someone, such as if they would strangle her or use a knife and baseball bat.

According to grand jury documents Comanche had initially tried to find someone to kill her instead. He told police he offered a friend $3,000 to commit the murder, but the friend was not interested in helping, the report stated.

Text transcripts also revealed a third person who may have known about the alleged murder plot.

Comanche and Harnden appeared in court Wednesday, March 13. The arraignment was continued to March 28. Court records indicate the case will be going before the death review committee.

Both Comanche and Harnden remain in custody and face charges of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree kidnapping with the use of a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
