Video: Sinkhole repairs at Ocala's Gaitway Plaza expected to be completed soon

Workers are hopeful that the sinkhole that opened up outside the Vitamin Shoppe on State Road 200 in the Gaitway Plaza on May 20 will be fixed and the parking lot repaved by June 9, according to contractor Dwight Smith with D&D Constructors LLC.

The hole has not grown and is still about 30 feet in diameter and about 20 feet deep. Engineers from Ocala-based Geo-Tech did bore samples 50 feet deep to make sure that there was no void underneath the sinkhole.

The hole is near a storm drain vault that branches off to different retention ponds.

Smith said that Southwest 27th Avenue and State Road 200 were not compromised in any way.
